Technical codes: Expressive,canted angles, ecu’s on victim,
pov, depth of frame, unsettling jumps, sudden increases in editing pace, sound
very important.
Iconography: Black and red, dim lighting, unnatural light,
mise-en-scene involves weapons, childhood.
Narrative structure: Todorov, complicated victim/hero, formulaic
narratives, propp, barthes and levi strauss,
Characters: Main girl, androgynous, virginal, monster with
hidden secret/past, moronic teenagers, children, useless law enforcers, the
‘have a go’ hero, mad scientists, people who refuse to believe.
Themes: Binary opposites, repressed thoughts, hidden evil,
science out of control, what happens when you die?, ideologies.
