There are many ways in which Dana is typical of the final girl theory, and also many ways in which she is not. Firstly, she is quite tomboyish, in her dress sense, and the way in which she fights back. Also, she has an androgynous name, and she is very sensible, she does not plan to have sex, she is virginal, and also she tries to take textbooks with her in case she gets bored. However, she isn't a final girl, Marty also survives until the end of the film, and even when Dana is almost forced to shoot him, she doesn't, and they both survive until the end, in which everyone dies. Also, she does get with a guy, and there probably was a chance that she would've had sex if Holden hadn't died or panic hadn't stricken everyone.
Jules becomes a horror archetype throughout the film, one of the first things that happens in the film is that you find out that Jules has dyed her hair blonde, which you later find out has been modified to retard her cognitive ability, transforming her into "the whore". When in the cabin, everyone is sprayed with a pheromone mist (and more so in the forest) which made everyone who came into contact with it have increased sexual desires.
Mulvey's male gaze is exemplified throughout the film in many different ways, especially just using Jules. After she is transformed into "the whore" her actions become very sexualised, in very obvious ways, including her make out session with the stuffed wolf on the wall, which never would've happened in such a way without the pheromone mists. Also, her strip-dance in front of everyone was very sexualised, with one of the shots within that scene being a shot that tilts up her body from her legs. Also, when she goes off to have sex in the woods, there are many close ups of her, and then a shot of the two old men in the facility staring at her, showing male gaze in a literal way.
We as an audience are made to be voyeurs in many points throughout the film, to start off, with the one way mirror, we are made to be voyeurs as there is a POV shot from Holden watching Dana undress, and although he is too respectful for her and tell her to stop, it is clear that he enjoys watching her. The exact thing happens when they swap rooms, but instead Dana being the voyeur and maybe a sway towards better for female watchers. Also, there is a huge voyeurism part, which is basically the whole film, where the people in the facility are filming everything that happens to these people in the cabin, and broadcasting it to an audience which we are not told of how many there are, but we can assume that its big. This is a very wide voyeurism in this way, as in a reality show, shown to a wide audience, but they do not know they're being watched, so in this way, the audience are made to feel as voyeurs too.
In the cabin in the woods, women are represented in a few different ways. Firstly, Jules is represented as "the whore" the dumb blonde who has sex and dies first, due to her promiscuity and lack of paying attention. Wendy Lin is represented as just a woman who is there to complain about everything, although she could be seen as a consumer because she still bets on the monsters. Dana is represented as the final girl, even though she is feminine, she does get slightly sexualised with the pheromone mists, and at the end where you find out, that in fact she isn't a virgin. she fends off the villains rather than just screaming for help. The director is represented as very important, the one who is the way of communicating with the gods, and the one who seems to be in control of the whole operation, so she is represented in an all powerful way over other people, however is just doing the gods bidding.
