The role of the film distributor is to make sure the movie
gets out to the most amount of people possible, using advertising and timing of
such things as release of the film to do this. They use lots of forms of
advertising, for example: Posters, TV and cinema ads and web ads. The type of
advertising will differ though, depending on the target audience so for
example, if the audience is older people, there would be a lot less emphasis on
internet adverts. One more recent ad campaign that harnessed a wide audience
was for The Woman in Black, using the star power of Daniel Radcliffe along with
competitions and all sorts of other methods to draw a huge audience in. A
unified identity is important for any advertising campaign as it gives the film
something that the target audience can associate with it, so in turn be able to
recognise advertisements for the certain film, and this means they will be
thinking about the film, and then hopefully want to see it, because they will
see the advertising everywhere.
